b o o k Mothers and GrandmothersCindy Johns From my own experience I've found that for women (particularly those of us who are moms) knowledge, growth, and the Internet all entwine together like a beautifully plaited braid. Intellectual growth is based on the desire to undertake new challenges, and because of that desire. ... For me, like many moms, one of the most important goals in life is to see that kids get a quality education; and merging the internet with education is ideal. The Internet offers the freedom to develop as individuals, and not be corralled into a 'cookie-cutter' mold. The homeschool community is enjoying explosive growth all over the world, and with the use of Internet bulletin boards we're able to share successful techniques and resources to instill an enthusiastic joy for learning in our kids' hearts. Writers and Artists
Xander Mellish I could present my stories the way I wanted them, without financial backing from a publishing house. I didn't have to wait two years for my work to go from manuscript to proof to sales sample to bookstore product. The stories could be read as quickly as I wrote them. What's more, I got direct response from readers, who made it very clear which stories they liked and which ones they didn't. I was also able to stretch the boundries of what was called a book, by including audio clips, reader comments, and a changing gallery of drawings and photographs relating to the stories. The Internet is the future of American fiction. In book form, American literature is controlled by a small circle of people. But on the Internet, writers are in charge. They control the presentation and distribution of their own work. Women Making Connections - FamilyThe Net has been an irreplaceable resource for keeping in touch with my scattered, yet close, family. I'm in Connecticut and my daughter is in San Francisco, and we planned her wedding via e-mail! Two years ago, when a son separated from his wife (he also lives in California), the entire family support system was available to him night and day because of e-mail! (That's a whole book unto itself!) My sister, with whom I am very, very close, lives in south Florida and we can write each other three or four times a day, when we need to, and when our mother was dying, we needed to! For the past year, our entire family (descendants of my grandfather) have been planning our first-ever Family Reunion. Without the Net, it would have been completely impossible --but, we are all getting together in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 2 months! Buy of the Cybergrrl book! |
