I met Lynda Wolfe in Atlanta because her job is to take me around the city to all my interviews - that is what she does for a living - guiding authors around Atlanta. And here is what she thinks of the Internet:

Lynda Wolfe, Media Escort

Linda

"I really just happen to like different newsworthy things (on the Internet). Time and Newsweek and a lot of the editorial writers. I just really started with the Internet. I never had it before. For some reason I couldn't access it until my daughter came over and fixed it. She's 25. She knows alot more than I do.

When I asked Linda what else she'd like to do on the 'Net, she said: "Everything. I'd like to learn how to surf the 'Net. I'm not sure I know what that means."

"I love editorial writers at different newspapers. I love looking up the different things they say. Like the New York Times. Let's say I read about an event, for instance, like that teacher in Seattle Washington and what happened to her and that young boy, the thirteen year old. But if you get it from the Seattle newspaper, it's ten times more interesting. So those are the kinds of things I like to do."

The next day, after first talking to Lynda, I met her daughter Marnie and here is what she had to say:

Marnie Wolfe, soon to be Technical Recruiter

Marnie

"I am interested in technical recruiting. I have recruiting experience and a sincere interest in the computer and technology so I want to put the two together and seek employment. (I use) Computer Jobs, Career Mosaic."

"I've been using the Internet on and off for a couple of years. I first learned about it doodling around on the job. I was temping and the computer at my desk had Internet access. I had down time so I explored. I had no idea really what I was doing."

"I think a younger person is more surrounded by (the Internet) and are more open to it. Whereas someone who has been out in the world for a few years, had children, they are very accustomed to their way of life and are not always open to new ideas."

When I asked Marnie what she thinks about her Mom getting online she said, "It's a wonderful thing!"

There isn't one particular thing that motivates me or anyone I know to necessarily get online. I get on it out of pure interest. Seeing what's out there, keeping up with various topics. I do it out of sheer enjoyment. So there's nothing I could say to encourage (my Mom) or anyone to get online except to say it's a fabulous experience."

Janet Glass Dekle, TV Segment Producer

Janet

"My husband and I got (an Internet account) because we thought (the Internet) was going to help us find information. But we get on there and we're not really sure what we are supposed to do. My sister has been trying to guide us through. I've got a couple of books. But if I know the address, if people give me the address, then I can find stuff. But I'm not really sure how to find them myself."

"Since I'm 8 months pregnant, the big thing I'm looking up is pregnancy stuff. We bought a car so when we were buying a car we were looking for the performance ratings and how to look for cars, so we have used it twice. We've had it for a year and a half (AOL)."

"I think it's great. It's a little intimidating because I'm not really sure. I work on a computer here at work...I feel very confident with that because I got a lot of training. Every time they change the software, they show us how to use it. And even though it's confusing, you're doing it every day. I think you get more of a feel for what you're doing and you're not as scared to venture out. Although we really don't venture that much because it's all self contained."

"One of the things about the Internet that I'm always afraid of is I've tried to get into chat rooms but I don't think our stuff is hooked up right because we can't get in there, to a lot of them. I'm always afraid I'm going to go someplace I'm not supposed to go and get kicked out of their 'society' or something."
