Aliza Sherman is president of Cybergrrl,Inc., a media and entertainment company at the forefront of creating online programming, products, services and virtual communities for women. She is the first spokesperson for women in new media, and her cartoon creation Cybergrrl is the Internet's first cyber-celebrity.
Ms. Sherman is the founder of Webgrrls (sm), a networking group for women interested in the Internet that currently has over 100 chapters world-wide. She is also a freelance writer whose work has appeared in national publications such as USA Today, Ms., The Net and Executive Female and on the Clinique and Lifetime TV websites. She has been profiled in publications including the Wall Street Journal, US News and World Report, Time Digital and Elle magazine and on CNN, CNN-FN, MSNBC, Bloomberg TV, C/NET, and CNBC. She was named one of The Most Powerful People in Their 20's by Swing magazine in 1997 and was called one of the Top 50 People Who Matter Most on the Internet by Newsweek. She is also the author of the upcoming book, Cybergrrl: A Woman's Guide to the World Wide Web (Ballantine) which will be released February 1998. Prior to forming Cybergrrl, Inc., Ms. Sherman served as the Executive Director at a domestic violence awareness group and before that, worked with musical artists such as Bruce Hornsby, Metallica and the Rolling Stones coordinating PR and marketing. Cybergrrl, Inc. has built some of the most popular women-related brands on the Internet including Cybergrrl, Webgrrls (sm) and Femina (sm) which they are extending into traditional media including print and television.
